We acknowledge the receipt of…

We acknowledge the receipt of photographs of the Syracuse Stars, champions of the International Association and the Des Moines team, champions of the Western Association, and tender our thanks to the artistic photographers thereof, respectively, P.S. Ryder of Syracuse, N.Y., and  La Roche & Co. of Des Moines, IA.

NY Clipper - November 3, 1888

No, ‘we’ didn’t receive these photos, but they did at the original New York Clipper offices as noted in the November 3, 1888 edition of ‘The Old Reliable’.

Did you know that Philip S. Ryder, the Syracuse photographer, was also the club’s first president from 1874 to 1877 and that on August 18, 2012 he’ll be inducted to the Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame with former MLB player Carlos Delgado?

For more on Ryder and the Syracuse Stars, make sure to visit Ron Gersbacher’s ‘History of Syracuse Baseball’ blog.
